Szczesny Mainau – A dream of an earthly paradise

The dream of an earthly paradise, we all dream it. In the year 2007 it comes true on Mainau Island. The family of Count Lennart Bernadotte is pleased that Stefan Szczesny has accepted their invitation to come to their island in Lake Constance and together with the island’s inhabitants is creatively shaping the Mainau in 2007.
The resulting link between the diverse works of art – which thanks to Stefan Szczesny’s versatility have been created in a wide range of materials and sizes – and nature raise visitors to the Mainau park to new dimensions: Art draws the attention of the observer and axes of view and sights in the park and gardens will open up that would otherwise have remained hidden.
Nature on its part offers art a generous, open and varied framework in which it can have a totally new effect. The creation process has an equally great meaning for Stefan Szczesny as for the people of Mainau, for in nature too, creative interventions must be well considered, as they have far-reaching consequences and cannot always be corrected.
Stefan Szczesny's art project of the Mainau Island is documented with the film »SZCZESNY - A dream of an earthly paradise«. Curd Faudon is the director and producer of the film who accompanied the artist with its team in all the developing and realisation phases of the project over two years.
